The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League was suspended till April 15 because of Covid-19 outbreaks in the country. Today, the franchise owners will have a conference call to make a final decision on the inauguration of IPL 2020. As the BCCI office has also closed so no meeting can be held there similarly no meeting can be held in the hotel. So, they have opted for the conference call.
This BCCI and IPL officials conference call with owners to decide what will happen to the competition. All over the globe, each country is struggling to fight with the Covid-19 pandemic and India is not different.
At present, it is still not clear that tournament will be shortened in length, or franchise holders would still try to make things happen as they were decided.
Possible Solutions for IPL 2020
BCCI and franchise owners are also open to host the event in overseas countries as they did it in 2009. Which was held in South Africa. But still, all this is all depending on the situation of Covid-19 coronavirus in overseas.
The rumor mill is also indicating that BCCI is looking to extend the date of the tournament till late summer and play it in July-September.
The situation of Coronavirus in India
Till now the country has tested 467 positive cases from the 19,817 individuals tested as on March 23, 8:00 PM IST. Yesterday, the whole country was locked down for 14 hours to test the preparedness.
After successful testing, the lockdown period was extended until March 31.
